Please note: Google Drive on the web has NOT been discontinued; you can still access it from https://drive.google.com! Well, the deadline is quickly approaching: you have until March 11 to install Drive File Stream or Google Backup and Sync, the replacement apps by Google. That’s right. The old Google Drive app is going away, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to migrate off of the popular cloud storage app or move to a different service.

Drive File Stream is for GSuite users, looks great but we already use Egnyte in enterprise as we need hybrid storage (local in sync with cloud) for performance demand
Teraterm for mac. The Backup and Sync for personal users is just an expansion of Google Drive. Its much better as you install it and it keeps your Google drive setting and lets you choose other folders from your local disk to sync. So if you have an existing photo library or bunch of stuff you can sysnc that now rather than having to keep it in your Google Drive folder
War thunder for mac. Google has been moving away from its Drive app for both PCs and Macs, and now the platform has an official end date.
Google Drive For Mac/pc Is Going Away Soon
Today, Google officially announced that it will be stopping support for the Google Drive app for both PCs and Macs beginning December 11, 2017. After that, the service will shut down permanently on March 12, 2018. Google notes that users who are still using the app will be notified that it is “going away” beginning in October, giving them plenty of time to use a different service instead. Google will be marketing its own alternative, “Backup and Sync,” which it launched for Mac and PCs earlier this year.
“With this launch, Google Drive for Mac/PC is officially deprecated. It will no longer be supported starting on December 11th, 2017, and it will shut down completely on March 12th, 2018. We encourage you to use Drive File Stream. As an alternative to or in addition to installing Drive File Stream, you can upgrade to the new version of Drive for Mac/PC, called Backup and Sync.”

Google Drive has been around for quite some time and has been a go-to option for backing up files and what not on computers for many users. It’s not too surprising that Google is shifting away from it, though, considering it has been pushing the Backup and Sync app for several months now. It’s good to see that Google is officially announcing the changes, and giving a final date for users to be aware of before they’ll have to switch.
